Tracy Edwards is a true heroine or our time. Against unimaginable odds she captained the first ever all female crew in the longest, toughest yacht race in the world. The boat Maiden broke British records in the Whitbread Round the World Race in 1989. It was a feat no one - especially the predominantly male sailing world - had believed possible. Tracy followed in 1998 with a dramatic attempt on the Jules Verne Trophy, again with an all female crew, to break the record for circumnavigating the globe. Sadly this time the 40ft seas and a broken mast ended her chances. Having been lucky enough to survive the worst the sea had to offer she was planning a further voyage when at the end of 1999 Tracy gave birth to daughter Mackenna and life took on a different perspective.
With courage, adventure, humour and gritty determination, this is an enthralling insight into the making of a heroine. " Tracy has always been one of my heroes and this book tells you why". Andy McNab "Tracy sets down her savage determination on the page and creates both a gripping tale of thrills on the high seas and an inner journey through her own cussedness to personal and professional peace". Maureen Lipman "Tracy's exploits are awe inspiring and inspirational. She's hard headed and humorous at the same time - a great mix for a skipper". John McCarthy |
